My Ph.D. journey (2014 - 2018)

Being a curious person at heart, I always wanted to do a Ph.D. at some point in my life to explore one particular topic in depth. In 2014, after working in the IT industry for 3 years, I decided to move from India to Taiwan to pursue this Ph.D. dream. Now, when I look back, my Ph.D. journey feels like a long-short journey of four years. I completed my Ph.D. in technology management in 2018 from the College of Management  at National Chung Hsing University, Taichung, Taiwan.

My Ph.D. research theme was related to the field of social psychology and organizational behavior, where I studied team behavior in undergraduate management students. I did a time-lagged study, where I collected data using survey research over six waves and analyzed different team variables over a period of time. During my Ph.D. research, I published three papers in internationally peer-reviewed journals (please refer to my ResearchGate profile).

The most important skills I used during my Ph.D. were testing theories, formulating research questions and hypotheses, designing a study, analyzing and interpreting the collected data using statistical tools such as SPSS and AMOS, and writing academic papers.

Do communication barriers in student teams impede creative behavior in the long run?—A time-lagged perspective

My postdoc phase (2019- mid 2020)

After completing my Ph.D., curiosity further led me to explore a completely different research field of information science during my postdoc journey (1 and a half years) at Chaoyang University of Technology. I worked on data-hiding techniques using image processing. I got to work on interesting data-hiding techniques and assist my postdoc professor’s master's students in analyzing data related to images and writing academic papers. I feel great that even though it was a completely new research area for me, I was able to grasp and learn things quickly due to my engineering background.

My teaching phase (from mid 2020)

After I completed my postdoc journey, I got into teaching and did research independently at the same university. I started exploring newer research topics independently and also published papers in collaboration with other colleagues. The topics I found interesting were how technology impacts education, cyberloafing, and mental well-being. I also attended several international conferences, attempting to showcase my preliminary research findings. It didn’t stop there. Being an expatriate, I was always interested in doing a study on other expatriates, so I decided to write a project and apply for funding. The National Science and Technology Council (Taiwan) approved my funding, and that’s how I completed my first project independently in Taiwan.

The impact of coping self-efficacy and sociocultural adjustment on skill development of expatriates in Taiwan
